Shenanigans utilized by insurance companies to save a few bucks are costly to the American people. Insurance policyholders who pay for their insurance in installments, such as on a monthly basis are sometimes charged a "finance charge" or "service fee" in addition to the premium amount specified by the insurance policy. These charges are prohibited by law and are put center-stage in class action lawsuits. By charging and collecting more than is permitted by their contracts, insurance companies are in breach of contract and in violation of the law. Robbins Umeda & Fink, LLP therefore seeks to protect the rights of consumers and state and federal entities against insurance fraud and unfair business practices in the insurance industry.
